No this isn't the end of my blog stop looking so happy. The end that I'm talking about is the end of my Junior year. Now to continue on a tradition that I've held since my early blogging days on Myspace (Yes I know, I was younger and stupid), I usually sum up the year much like J.D. on an episode of Scrubs always has to sum up his life at the end of each show. Last year I talked about how I've come to appreciate my High School, how it was the only place where I could truly be myself and be accepted. While last year was groundbreaking with things such as our trip to Italy, the departure of Sam, and our basketball team finally winning a decent amount of games. This year blows that all out of the water.
At the start of this year I came back from my many adventures working at a boy scout camp a changed man. I actually cared about school, I wanted to do well. This year has marked one of the first where my G.P.A. is above a 3.0 and I'm no longer ashamed to say what my grades are.
Drama played an important part of my Junior year, no not the drama where soandso is macking with soandso, no I'm talking about theater. I played my biggest part in a play to date, Charlemagne in Pippin. I spent countless hours helping the drama people backstage with the various middle school plays, and made some really good friends as a result of it.
Towards the end of the year I started dating this wonderful girl, so far things are going great, and I'm really looking forward to spending my summer with her.
Looking back on this year as a whole my original prediction was correct. This was a good year it was like last year in the respect that I could be myself with my friends, but we all became so much closer as well. However, next year isn't going to be as good, I think we have all reached the high point in our High School career. Many people I've talked to don't want to acknowlege their status as High School Seniors yet, and this is because they don't want to say goodbye yet. Goodbye to their friends, teachers, parents, city, state, to high school, to their years as minors. Goodbyes are never easy, but hiding from it is going to just make things worse when you actually have to face them later. Next year is going to be The End, and there is not a damn thing we can do about it except let it go out with a bang, instead of a wimper. I'll leave you with a quote from an appropriate song.
"This is the end, Beautiful friend
This is the end, My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again"
-The Doors (The End)
Long Days and Pleasant Nights My Friends,
